Many of our members and friends are joyfully celeb Many of our members and friends are joyfully celebrating Diwali and Bandi Chhor Divas this week. ✨Diwali, one of India's most important festivals, is marked by lighting diyas, symbolizing the victory of light over darkness, good over evil, and knowledge over ignorance. 🪔On Bandi Chhor Divas, Sikhs honor the courageous act of Guru Hargobind Sahib Ji, who refused his own release from prison until 52 others were freed as well. Four centuries later, his compassion, courage, and solidarity with others continue to inspire.Wishing all our members and friends a joyful and prosperous Festival of Lights!

Every December 6 is the National Day of Remembranc Every December 6 is the National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women, where we remember the lives of 14 young women who were killed in a mass shooting at l’École Polytechnique de Montréal in 1989. It is also a day of action, and for some time, our local has led actions to bring attention to gender-based violence.Over many years, UFCW Local 247 activists have collected new and lightly used shoes from across the Lower Mainland to display at a public place every December 6, honouring the memory of women murdered in British Columbia. These shoes are then donated to shelters to assist women in need. We've begun distributing collection boxes in UFCW Local 247 workplaces across the Lower Mainland, where we’ll be collecting as many pairs of shoes as we can from September 22 to November 14, 2025.To participate, check out our website: https://www.ufcw247.com/local-news/shoe-memorial-2026-collection-begins/
