UFCW Canada 2021 Equity Grant winners announced!

Toronto – November 15, 2021 – UFCW Canada is proud to announce that three outstanding individuals – Janet Tang, Robert Jessup, and Adam Yahav – have been selected as the inaugural recipients of the UFCW Canada Equity Grant Program.

UFCW Canada launched the exciting Equity Grant Program on December 10, 2020, to coincide with Human Rights Day! Almost a year later, we are proud to announce that each of the three 2021 recipients have been awarded a $1,000 grant to support their existing projects.

Each of the recipients is leading a community initiative in their community that works to address societal inequities through a focus on inclusion, wellbeing, and a community approach to safety.

The 2021 recipients are:

  • Janet Tang – Janet is the founder of the national program Bridging the Generational Gap.  Janet is the daughter of a UFCW Local 175 Union member employed in the food processing sector.

  • Robert Jessup – Robert is the Communications Director for the Citizens on Patrol Program – Steinbach Chapter. Robert is also a UFCW Canada Local 832 Union member and a proud vice-president on the UFCW Local 832 Executive Board.

  • Adam Yahav – Adam volunteers with the B.C. based program Backpack Buddies and was President of his school’s Community Outreach based initiatives. Adam discovered the grant opportunity while looking for ways to support his community during the pandemic.

In the weeks ahead, UFCW Canada will highlight the work of each Equity Grant recipient and provide information on how you can get connected to this important work!

The UFCW Canada Equity Grant program is now officially open for its second year.
