Saskatoon, Sask. – August 3, 2021 – President Lucia Flack Figueiredo and Secretary-Treasurer Marilynne MacFarlane have officially begun their new roles in serving the membership and union, after being sworn into office by UFCW Canada National President Paul Meinema and members of the UFCW Local 1400 Executive Board.
“It is a tremendous privilege and responsibility to serve UFCW 1400 members and activists as president”, said Sister Figueiredo, who became a member of UFCW 1400 in 1996 when the Salvation Army thrift store she worked at in Saskatoon joined the local union. “The experiences and knowledge that members, stewards, and leaders have shared with me over the years will be central to advancing Local 1400 as an ever-stronger voice for the thousands of hardworking Local 1400 members across Saskatchewan.”
“Congratulations to Lucy and Marilynne,” said UFCW Canada National President Paul Meinema. “They have both been tireless advocates and builders of our great union. We look forward to their leadership in Saskatchewan, as well as nationally as members of the UFCW Canada National Council.”
President Flack Figueiredo and Secretary-Treasurer MacFarlane were elected by the union’s Executive Board to their positions in accordance with the UFCW Constitution, following the retirement of UFCW Canada Local 1400 President Norm Neault.
