Affordability for All

Toronto – May 28, 2025 – Across Canada, the affordability crisis is putting increasing pressure on families and communities. Soaring housing costs, rising cost of bills, and stagnant wages are making it harder for people to meet their basic needs. For many, it’s not just about tightening budgets—it’s about survival.

This crisis is more than an economic challenge; it’s a matter of justice and human dignity. Families are being forced to choose between paying rent or affording medication, buying groceries or covering childcare. Women, racialized communities, and low-wage workers are disproportionately impacted, facing greater barriers to housing, good jobs, and essential services.

Affordability for All is a national campaign calling for urgent action to address these inequalities and ensure that everyone in Canada can live with dignity and security. UFCW Canada members across the country have spoken and are demanding real solutions that reflect the everyday realities people face, including:

  • Affordable housing
  • Action on the rising cost of living
  • Strengthened universal public healthcare that’s accessible to everyone
  • Good, secure jobs with fair wages and decent working conditions
  • Affordable, high-quality childcare to support working families
  • Trade policies that put workers and communities first
  • Fair taxation, where the ultra-wealthy contribute their share to fund public services

These are not radical demands—they are the foundation of a fair and functional society. By standing together and speaking out, we can pressure decision-makers to take the bold action Canadians need.

It’s time to fix a broken system. It’s time to prioritize people over profit.
