On October 1, Sobeys officials met with UFCW Local 247 and UFCW Local 1518 senior officials. In this meeting, Sobeys shared more detailed financial reports for both unions.

On October 2-3, bargaining between Local 247 and Safeway began. Both parties exchanged proposals, and it came as no surprise to the Union Bargaining Committee that some of the employer’s proposals were similar to items contained in the Ready award.

The Union Bargaining Committee meets next with the employer on October 15th and 16th.

The Union Committee and Sobeys have also scheduled talks to continue on October 23-24.

The Union Safeway Bargaining Committee is Sharon Tuerlings, Alicia Whitehead, Doug Insley, Margaret Robins, Kathleen Allen, and Brian Taylor, and they were joined by UFCW 247  Secretary-Treasurer Dan Goodman, Union Rep Bruce Jackson, and Union Rep Cathy Shannon.
