2 more Superstore members receive big back pay after union steps in

Two more Superstore members have received substantial back pay after being promoted but not receiving premium pay.

One member received back pay of $4012.00, while the other received back pay of $1474.00.

So far in 2019, a number of UFCW Local 247 members employed at Superstores have received wage increases and substantial back pay after their Union Reps investigated their schedules and seniority reports, including:

  • A Union Rep investigating seniority reports found that a member who became an Assistant Front End Supervisor in November 2016 did not receive the 40 cents per hour increase to which they were entitled. After the union intervened, the rate of pay was corrected with a 40 cents per hour wage increase, and back pay of 40 cents for every hour worked since November 2016, totalling $1395.42. This member had no idea there was an issue with their rate of pay, and was very pleasantly surprised to receive their owed wage increase and back pay.
  • A Cashier was promoted to Assistant Front End Supervisor, but did not receive the full wage increase to which they were entitled. The Union Rep grieved the incorrect rate of pay, and the company corrected the situation. The member received an hourly wage increase of $1.45 per hour, and back pay of $1.45 for every hour worked since June 2018, adding up to $1929.74.
  • Another Superstore member changed departments, but was mistakenly put under the wrong classification, and received an incorrect rate of pay. Result: a $5.00 per hour wage increase for the member, along with over $15,000 in back pay
  • Superstore members who are promoted to an “Assistant Supervisor” position are supposed to earn .40 cents per hour above the top-rated person in their department, according to the contract. However, a UFCW 247 member who became an Assistant Supervisor in January 2018 received the incorrect amount of pay. After the union investigated and consulted with the company, the situation was corrected and the member was compensated. Result: an immediate $6.00/hour wage increase, and back pay of $14,200.

If you are not sure you are being paid properly, please check your paystub and your contract, and if you still have questions, feel free to inquire further with your Shop Steward and/or Union Representative.
