October 14, 2026 – Squamish, B.C. – UFCW Canada is proud to support the Squamish Welcome Centre’s Digital Divide Project, as part of the Equity Grant program.

The Squamish Welcome Centre is a non-profit organization that provides information, services, and connections to resources for residents of Squamish, B.C.

The organization used their 2025 Equity Grant to support the expansion of the centre’s Digital Divide Project, which helped community members build the skills and confidence needed to safely navigate online spaces. The funding allowed the program to operate as a low-barrier drop-in service during the off-season months of April and May, helping seniors—many of whom are low-income or newcomers—access essential online services such as booking health appointments.

“Our participants know that we are here to help, and they’re very relieved to know that they can come in once a week and get help. They have also been very open in asking for help,” says the Digital Divide program lead. “Some people were quite reluctant at the beginning to ask for help, and now they are comfortable in knowing that we’re here for them and that no question is a silly question.”

UFCW Canada Equity Grant 2026

Applications are now being accepted for the 2026 UFCW Canada Equity Grant Program, offering UFCW Canada members and community allies an opportunity to receive funding for projects that promote equity, inclusion, human rights, and stronger communities.

The annual program builds on UFCW Canada’s longstanding commitment to supporting initiatives that make a meaningful difference both in workplaces and across Canada. This year, up to three Equity Grants valued at $1,000 each will be awarded to help bring impactful community projects to life during 2026 and 2027.

Applicants can apply under one of three funding streams: Newcomer and Immigration, Human Rights, or Community Action. To be considered, applicants must submit either a 250-word project description or a short video outlining how they would use the grant to support their initiative. The application deadline is October 30, 2026.
