Will you join us this December 6? We'll be at Hyack Square in New Westminster from 10 AM - 2 PM for our annual Shoe Memorial 👠 event.December 6 is the National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women. Our Shoe Memorial event is a way for us to symbolically honour the victims of gender-based violence while also taking action to gather donations for women in need. ✊Over many years, UFCW Local 247 activists have collected new and lightly used shoes from across the Lower Mainland to display at a public place every December 6, honouring the memory of women murdered in British Columbia. These shoes are then donated to shelters to assist women in need.Our shoe collection deadline is November 14, 2025. If you have new or gently worn shoes that you are able to donate, please contact our Surrey Office at 604.535.8329 or ufcw@ufcw247.com.

As UFCW Local 247 Union Representatives continue to deliver scholarship cheques to this year's winners, we want to give a big congratulations to Abineet, Brigid, Cindy, Eknoor, Eric, and Shamsa. 🎉Sometimes these interactions hit you right in the feels... ❤️As one of our UFCW Local 247 Union Representatives shared recently when delivering a cheque to a winner in her store, "her co-workers were so happy for her. They said, 'if anyone deserves it, it's her.' It was the most touching experience I've had presenting a cheque to a member."It's truly heartwarming when we all recognize each other, in our struggles and in our wins. That's what solidarity is all about! 🎓

Workers at Rio Brazilian Steakhouse in Vancouver have ratified their first ever collective agreement with UFCW Local 247, setting a solid foundation for their union in an industry with notoriously complex labour conditions.Among their many gains, they won wage improvements, scheduling certainty, and control over their tips.Rio employees not only achieved a legally-binding document covering their workplace rights – they also got engaged and empowered, building their union in the process.
