This month we reflect on the historical contributions of women to Canadian society. There's no better time to reflect on women-led labour actions that, in spite of difficult conditions, led to positive changes.In the retail industry in Canada, the Eatons strike of 1984-85 was one such struggle. With little prior experience in unions, (mostly) women working at several Eatons stores in Ontario organized themselves and ultimately struck their employer.Enduring bitter cold, their struggles eventually led to the introduction of first contract arbitration legislation in Ontario.A brief article on the Eaton's strike is in the comments.Photo credit: Mike Phillips

The labour movement stands for solidarity and unity in the face of division and hate.Just days before the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, a gathering of white nationalists on Tk’emlúps te Secwepemc lands sought to mock and intimidate communities impacted by the atrocity of Canada’s residential schools.
