Today we observe Transgender Day of Remembrance, a Today we observe Transgender Day of Remembrance, an opportunity to remember the trans people we have lost to transphobic, transmisogynistic, and racist violence, and to support the trans community.The roots of this day go back to 1999 in response to the murders of Rita Hester, Chanelle Pickett, and Monique Thomas, Black trans women whose murders gave rise to the "Remembering Our Dead" project: https://tdor.translivesmatter.info/
Nearly 20 years ago, Dan Goodman - then a union re Nearly 20 years ago, Dan Goodman - then a union representative with UFCW Local 247 - asked Caleb Macey to draw a logo for the annual UFCW Drive for a Cure golf tournament. Caleb was eight years-old and undergoing chemotherapy treatment.This week, we are celebrating UFCW's partnership with the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society of Canada, a "Labour of Love" that has raised $54 million for blood cancer research and vital supports. 🩸Dan reconnected with the Macey family last week, and he let Caleb know that his drawing is still being used after all these years, a reminder of our union's ongoing commitment to raising funds for LLSC and the real-life impact we can have when we support blood cancer research.Read more about Caleb's continuing connection with UFCW: https://bit.ly/49TdjwG
Part of what we mean by "bringing our union to whe Part of what we mean by "bringing our union to where members are at" is having open houses in lunch rooms. That way, we can't be missed! Even with regular visits, especially with our members working all kinds of hours, we still miss folks.That's why we're making a special effort to schedule visits and events that also engage our members who work late at night and over night.Here are some pics from some of Heather's late night visits at Superstore locations this week.
