February 12, 2010 NEGOTIATIONS UPDATE Okanagan Tree Fruit Update Your Negotiating Committee met with both the Company and Mediator Mark Atkinson on February 11th. This followed four other days of meetings just with the Company held January 4th, 5th, 25th and 26th. The January meetings were following up on Mediator Atkinson’s award in which he asked the parties to continue to try to resolve the outstanding issues not addressed in his award. Although we did resolve some issues during the January meetings, the most progress by far was made during the February meeting with Mr. Atkinson present. The Union raised issues he had addressed in his award which we felt were not in the best interest of either party- specifically seniority or the change to an hours based system. After much discussion, we have agreed that the Company will only apply the hours based seniority system to employees hired after the Collective Agreement expired on August 31, 2009.For Employees who were already employed at date of expiration, you will revert to your seniority based on your adjusted date of hire, we have agreed to use the seniority lists as they stood on August 31, 2009 and members will be re-ordered based on these lists by the beginning of March. We will be forwarding the remaining issues to Mr. Atkinson for a final binding decision. Centennial Meats The Company and Union exchanged proposals in a conference call held January 29th. Proposals were submitted to the Negotiating Committee via a survey that had been distributed to all members. The call was to allow both parties to give explanation on their respective proposal packages and a follow up meeting has been scheduled for February 12th. © 2003 UFCW Local 247 ufcw@ufcw247.com Calgary Web Design by Media Dog |
