The Staci Carich Memorial Scholarship is awarded by draw to an eligible applicant who is employed at one of the following: Real Canadian Superstore, Extra Foods #9046, 9047& 9048, Real Canadian Wholesale Club, or the Western Grocers Warehouse. Staci Carich was a full time representative for Local 777 from 1996-1998, as well as a former executive board member. The George Johnston Memorial Scholarship is awarded by draw to an eligible applicant in the Retail Category (non Westfair). George Johnston served as the Secretary-Manager of the Meat Cutters Union Local 212A until his retirement in 1980. The Hugo Tims Memorial Scholarship is awarded by draw to an eligible applicant in the non-retail category. Hugo Tims was President of UFCW Local 1600 until 1984 when it merged with Local 212A to form UFCW Local 2000. The Jim Smith Memorial Scholarship is awarded by draw to an eligible applicant who is employed at one of the following: Real Canadian Superstore, Extra Foods #9046, 9047& 9048, Real Canadian Wholesale Club, or the Western Grocers Warehouse. Jim Smith was an International Representative with UFCW who moved to Local 777 in 1990 and served as Secretary-Treasurer until 1995. These scholarships are for the benefit of members and the children of members entering their first year of university, community college, or other post- secondary educational institute. Upon receipt of the application, the local will determine which Scholarships the applicant is eligible for based on employer. Deadline for applications for any of these scholarships: September 30. UFCW Canada also awards five (5) scholarships of $500.00 To be awarded to UFCW members or children of members who reside in British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, or Manitoba.
