Message from President Gib Whitlock

Local 247 represents over15,000 workers in British Columbia and we are part of UFCW Canada, which represents 230,000 workers across Canada in every province. We are part of the United Food and Commercial Workers International Union, home to 1.4 million workers in North America. We are affiliated to the Canadian Labour Congress and the BC Federation of Labour.

The Majority of our members are employed in the retail food sector and we have members in the Fruit Industry, Food processing and manufacturing, Warehousing, fisheries and Meat packing.

We have 4 offices throughout the province with our head office located in Surrey and our satellite offices in Victoria, Prince George and Kelowna.

Our training center is located in New Westminster and we are very proud of it and the programs that are run there including our membership programs and government funded programs

Our web site was first introduced in 2003 and has gone through several transformations since then to better serve the needs of our members. We look forward this year to our continued education of our shop stewards with the introduction of our new advanced shop stewards training courses. It will also be a busy year as we commence bargaining for our members employed by Westfair Foods in our largest retail group.
