VOCS: VOLUNTEER ORGANIZING COMMITTEES

ORGANIZING TO PROTECT OUR CONTRACTS AND FUTURES
UFCW CANADA'S NO.1 PRIORITY

All Stewards must help protect collective agreements.

Protecting collective agreements applies not just to your workplace, but in other workplaces as well. This means you must help in our Union's struggle to organize the unorganized.

Since the first time workers represented by a Union negotiated with their employer, employers have been singing the same tune:

"We can't afford any more because of competition"
OR
"We can't compete with non-union shops because our wages and benefits are much higher."

You've heard it yourself. They argue that wages are too high for the economy, that no one else has what you are asking for.

The simple, yet extremely challenging way to solve the problem is to organize all workers in our communities.

Just as every unorganized worker is a potential member, every member is a potential organizer. It is the Steward's job to educate co-workers on just how important it is to organize.

Members may have friends or family that work for employers of non-union businesses. Talk to them about our Union and if they show an interest, contact your Local Union Representative.

We are all potential organizers and if we all work at looking out for our interest, while helping our neighbours to get the same kind of benefits we do, we will maintain UFCW Canada's status as the number-one Union in the country.
