UFCW 247 at 58th convention of B.C. Federation of Labour

The 58th convention of the B.C. Federation of Labour (BC Fed) got underway today at the Vancouver Convention Centre, and UFCW Local 247 has eight delegates attending and representing the interests of their union at the gathering of 2,000-plus labour delegates and dignitaries.

President Suzanne Hodge and Secretary-Treasurer Dan Goodman are joined at the convention by Guy Fraser, and Local 247 Executive Board members Sandra Geldart, Sandra Peters, Kathleen Allen, Doug Insley and Gordon McDonald. All of the Executive Board members are first time delegates to the B.C. Fed.

The BC Federation of Labour convention is labour's parliament, with debates and discussion about how to advance the cause of working people, motions, policy discussions, and political action strategizing.

At today's proceedings, outgoing BC Fed President Irene Lazinger gave her farewell speech, and federal NDP leader Jagmeet Singh addressed the delegates.

Elections will be held later this week for the positions of BC Fed President and Secretary-Treasurer.
