UFCW International Scholarship - 2011/12

One scholarship in Canada worth $4,000 will be awarded to a UFCW member or their dependents in any year of college in 2011/2012. UFCW CANADA SCHOLARSHIPS FOR THE CHILDREN OF MIGRANT WORKERS

 

As the largest private-sector union in Canada, UFCW Canada understands the importance of education, and as such is launching five scholarships for the children, grandchildren, sisters, brothers, nieces, and nephews of Migrant Workers in Canada. Each scholarship is in the amount of $1000 CDN. Children nominated for the scholarships can be of any nationality and do not have to reside in Canada.  

Through these scholarships, as part of our National “Education Has No Borders” Program, UFCW Canada continues its committed to helping empower migrant workers through education and advocacy.     Application Deadline:
The deadline for applying for the UFCW Canada Migrant Workers Scholarships is December 31, 2010 at 5:00 p.m. Only those accepted to receive the scholarships will be notified via registered mail or email by June 30, 2011.

Scholarship Criteria:
Only those persons who entered Canada to work under a Temporary Foreign Workers program (for example, a live-in caregiver, a seasonal agriculture worker, or a temporary foreign worker in any industry) and are in Canada as of December 31, 2010 (“the Applicant”) are eligible to apply.                                                                                     

Nominated children, grandchildren, sisters, brothers, nieces, and nephews of the Applicant may be in any country, can be of any nationality, but must be between 5 to 30 years of age and attending an educational institution or would like to attend an educational institution ( “the Nominee”).

The Scholarships will be awarded to nominated children who have shown leadership or achievement in one of the following areas: academic or scholarly success, community and leadership work, or artistic achievement. The Scholarships Application Form must be fully completed to be considered. The decision of UFCW Canada in awarding the Scholarships is final and not subject to review or scrutiny.

The Scholarships Application Form and all supporting documents and items submitted become the property of UFCW Canada and shall not be returned to the Applicant nor to the Nominated Child.

Please note that only English, French and Spanish applications are available online. Supporting documentation may be sent electronically to
socialjustice@ufcw.ca with the name of the Applicant in the Subject Line. English and Spanish applications are attached to this email for printing as well.
