J.S. McMillan Members Ratify New Agreement

By a vote of 78%, Local 247 members employed at the Prince Rupert- J.S. McMillan facility voted to accept the recommended settlement and have a new two (2) year collective agreement. The Company had made several concessionary proposals which were withdrawn after the 100% strike vote was taken on May 3rd.
"The Company had concerns over the current state of shipping to the U.S. and the situation with the inspections at the border so we thought a shorter deal might allow them the opportunity to see if some things might be worked out in the short term," said Local 247 Director of Bargaining Dan Goodman. "This way we can re-visit some of the concerns sooner rather than later if need be."
