Overwaitea company officials stated that the store would permanently close on July 28th, 2006.

Company officials are claiming "ongoing significant financial and competitive issues facing the store." as the reason for the closure and have further indicated that they considered converting the store again to another banner, but determined that further investment in this location was not a viable option given the store's financial difficulties.

Local 247 Secretary Treasurer Suzanne Hodge stated "that the closure and the reasons given for it came as a complete surprise seeing that at no time has the company so much as even hinted at or raised financial difficulties concerning the Courtenay store."
