 Canada's best union advances member education with over $335,000 in union scholarships


This year Canada's best union,UFCW Canada, and its local and regional affiliates are once again leading the way in promoting member education by offering more than $335,000 in union scholarships and education assistance funding to eligible members and their families.

For 2013, UFCW Canada's National Office, Local Unions, Saskatchewan Provincial Council, and Eastern Provinces Council are awarding a total of 407 bursaries and one-time education assistance funding worth $335,336 to active members and their dependents who are enrolled in full-time studies at a Canadian university, college, or other recognized post-secondary institution.The deadlines for submitting scholarship applications run from April 30th to December 31st, depending on the local or council.

As part of the union's efforts to provide ever-expanding education and training opportunities to members and their families, UFCW Canada offers a range of post-secondary scholarships as well as free online courses through its groundbreaking webCampus program.

"These bursaries not only help members build better lives for themselves by pursuing important educational opportunities, but also provide non-unionized food and retail workers with yet another good reason to join the union."
