Rally held to support striking workers at Super Valu/Extra Foods

On Saturday March 11, a rally was held in front of the Park Royal Super Valu/ Extra Foods to show support for the striking workers from UFCW Local 1518, as well as the effected UFCW Local 247 members. 100 UFCW 1518 members have been on strike since January 13, after Super Valu/Extra Foods and parent company Westfair persisted in demanding concessions during negotiations for a new collective agreement. UFCW Local 247 members who work in the store's meat-deli department have been honouring the picket lines as well.

At the rally, Suzanne Hodge, Secretary Treasurer of Local 247, reaffirmed the pledge of Local 247 and its members to stand beside our Local 1518 brothers and sisters on the picket line and support them until a resolution is reached. Other speakers included former Secretary Treasurer Ian Landles, Jim Sinclair, President- B.C. Federation of Labour and Ivan Limpright, Secretary Treasurer of Local 1518.
Entertainment was provided by the Solidarity Notes Choir.
