Safeway Negotiations Update May 28, 2008

Progress Made in Safeway Bargaining

After an additional 2 days of bargaining on June 3rd and 4th some progress has been made commented Local 247 Director of Bargaining, Dan Goodman. "At this stage we are really still dealing with many of the non-monetary issues such as the letters of understanding, scheduling issues and the possibility of a full-time reduced work week. The Company has obviously seen many of these issues on the table in previous bargaining but we are having good dialogue and looking at all options. One of our goals was to clean up some of the redundant language that has accumulated over time and make the contract easier for both sides to understand and we're having success doing that."

At this time the Company has not tabled a monetary package but the Union Bargaining Committee has made it clear that the tier system of scheduling is the main focus and many of our other proposals tie into that issue.

Further dates will be posted as we obtain them.
